What’s next…

Coming up later this month we have a much anticipated trip to Portsmouth, NH to play the Jazzmouth jazz and poetry festival (http://jazzmouth.org/). It’s always a joy to be a part of this festival, and to see our friends there again. We will be recording while in NH too, more on that to come in due time!

In the meantime, we’re in NYC, working away, writing new music and making plans. All is well!

2011 Plans

It is a beautiful, crystal clear sunny day here in NYC, though still pretty cold, and I am plotting my next projects.

The next few weeks will see a long time dream of mine realized in the form of a solo saxophone recording. I’ve been contemplating this for ages now, and in fact my year started in a wonderful way, with a solo performance on New Year’s Day at the Brecht Forum in New York. It was a whole day of solo performances by some very exciting musicians, and was really inspiring. The audience was attentive and enthusiastic, I could not have wished for a better way to start the year.

January continued with several other nice musical events, including a show with François Grillot’s Contraband at Local 269, performing compositions by François which are challenging and enormously fun to play. The band, François on bass, Anders Nillson on guitar and Michael Evans on drums, is just fantastic and I feel privileged to be a part of it. I also worked with Matt Lavelle, brass/reeds player extraordinaire, on a recording for the band Out Like Lambs; here’s a link to a video of us that was done after the session: (thanks to MLS for this)

More news to come soon, including of course an update on the trajectory of Clockwork Mercury!
